The Open – Carnoustie

No more Car-nasty, more like Car-nice-ty now.

As the 147th Open came to a dramatic conclusion on Sunday afternoon, spectators and players alike were singing the praises of this great Scottish course.  It was playing beautifully – hard fast fairways due to the drought Scotland has experienced over the last 3 months (yes honestly! ) and the smooth receptive greens thanks to an efficient sprinker system! The organisation was outstanding and the eventual winner Francesco Molinari saw off the challenges of Rory, Justin, Tiger, Jordan, and others,  by playing bogey free golf for the final 37 holes of the event. A remarkable achievement !

We are delighted to have been featuring Carnoustie in thousands of our tours over the past 20 years and look forward to booking many more tee times there for our golf addict clients who want to play the world’s best courses. Thanks go to to all those who travelled with us and we hope you enjoyed The Open from all of us here in Scotland Golf Tours.

Hope to see you all at Royal Portrush in 2019.

The Open – Carnoustie 19-22 July 2018

With 2016-07-17 18.27.45-2just a few weeks left before The Open starts we still have a few tickets left and some accommodation in nearby Dundee and St Andrews areas. If you want to book a last minute trip, call us today. We can add some great golf. Hope this weather lasts. May was very dry, June has been excellent . Currently 81F in Dunfermline today :). The picture, in case you’re wondering, was taken at the fanzone at Royal Troon in 2016. Thousands of happy golfers were watching the climax of the event on the big screens with some food and plently beers. Great atmosphere on and off the course. The Open is one of these events every golfer needs to go to at least once!

150th Open Championship is back at The Old Course in 2021

2016-07-17 17.20.24The R&A today confirmed the venue of the 150th Open will indeed be The Old Course. This has been anticipated by many for several years, but the R&A kept with tradition and only confirmed it with the customary 3 1/2  year lead in time it normally does.

This will be the 30th time The Old Course has hosted the premier event in the European golfing calendar.

The 148th Open takes place in July this year and it will be played over the challenging Carnoustie Links.  Carnoustie is one of our favourite courses for our golfing groups and thousands of our clients have played the links during their Scotland Golf Tours trip.  The overwhelming impressions the golfers take home with them are –  the condition of the course is always exceptional, the course is very playable by all the amateurs with decent handicaps  if you avoid the bunkers,  and the closing stretch of holes is amongst the toughest of any of The Open rota courses.

There are still packages available so why not come and enjoy the amazing event that is The Open.  You may prefer to come later in the season and actually play the course, tee times are still available. Bookings for 2018 are still being taken and bookings for 2019 are already very strong, particularly for the larger groups of 12 or more .

Juli Inkster is US Solheim Cup Captain for record 3rd time.

Juli Inkster will make history in Scotland next year.

She will become the first American to captain three Solheim Cup teams.

I wanted to change the culture,” Inkster said. “It’s not about winning. It’s about playing for each other. It’s about playing for the United States. I wanted these girls, after they were done playing, whether we won or lost, to say, ‘That was an amazing experience. I want to do that again.’

“I think we needed to get back to the basics of golf, of playing golf. I just think we were getting away from that. We got lost in what the Solheim Cup was all about. It’s not about face paint. It’s about playing for the red, white and blue and playing golf.”

The Americans will meet Europe at Gleneagles in Scotland in 2019. Scotland’s own Catriona Matthew will lead Europe.

Scotland Tours has been appointed an Official Tour Operator for this event.  Book your package to include accommodation transport and tickets to the event with us NOW. 36638718015_e45aed9886_b

Gleneagles Hotel,  located in central Scotland, and host to the 2014 Ryder Cup and the 2019 Solheim Cup, has scooped another top award. Val Eglinton, Director of Sales, reports..

The Open – Carnoustie 19-22 July 2018

Once again, The Open returns to Carnoustie in July 2018.

We have packages available where you can choose how many days you wish to attend and what standard of hotel you wish. We will also arrange golf for you during your tour, on request.

Please visit our Open website and make your enquiry now.

Remember the British Seniors is being played on The Old Course St Andrews the following week  (26-29 July) so why not include a few days at that event as well.  See the world’s greatest golfers  – past and present – at both events.

The British Seniors will not be as busy as an Open is when it is at St Andrews so this is a great opportunity to walk the course, get close to and follow your favourite golfers while they play a major at St Andrews.

The 2019 Solheim Cup

If you watched the 2017 Solheim Cup on TV, you will have enjoyed a great festival of golf.  The event in Des Moines in August 17 was spectacular and the next meeting of these 2 great teams takes place at Gleneagles Scotland, 13-15 September 2019.

We have been appointed by IMG and Visit Scotland as an Authorised Tour Operator and will be arranging packages including tickets to the event.

I have been to 4 Ryder Cups between USA and Europe and was delighted to attend my first Solheim Cup in Des Moines as part of the Scottish delegation. I have to say the atmosphere is very similar to a Ryder Cup.  Exciting golf, patriotic fans on both sides, and excellent sportsmanship.

Gleneagles played host to the 2014 Ryder Cup and I am sure the 2019 Solheim Cup will be every bit as thrilling.

Catriona Matthew (pictured below with Ronnie) has been appointed European Captain and the USA have still to confirm their captain’s appointment, but few would bet against Juli Inskster being re-appointed after her successful captaincy at the last 2 events.

You can be there with Scotland Tours. We have hotels reserved, transport links in place, ticket allocations and of course the early bookers have the opportunity to get the reserved seating areas etc. The message is, talk to your group or your club pro or manager and try to get a club tour arranged. We are booking tours for 2 to 50+ people.

See our Solheim Cup page on this website for more details.

The Old Course 2018 and 2019

As I reported some time ago, we have been appointed an Authorised Provider of Old Course tee times. This means we get access to booking our tee times before they are released to the public. We can therefore request times and be fairly sure of getting the exact date, providing that date is not reserved for a course closure or tournament etc.

The position for the 2018 tee-times is that most have now been sold. We do have a few left in April and June but this is changing by the hour. If you want to check our availability please pick up the phone or drop us an email and we can give you the exact position regarding availability.

2019 season may seem a long way away, but we are now getting enquiries regularly for tours and events that year. We will be applying for our Old Course times in early February  2018 so if you are thinking about getting your group together for a trip then, please start talking to the group now and contact us for a quote. That way we can get you logged in and can request the right times for your tour.

The message is plan early to get the best times!Owens 2

The blog is back !

After a malfunction in the spring, that meant we could not add stories, we have eventually got that sorted and we can update you with the news. I apologise for the length of time is has been out of action. We will be adding regular posts again and you are invited to revisit our site regularly and keep up to date with developments.

Since it went down in the spring, there have been many changes and updates to inform you of, and some of these will be given their own subject heading so please read on and see what’s new.

One issue I do want to raise first is to introduce you to the new team members here in Dunfermline.  As a result of 2 resignations and 1 retiral, we have appointed 3 new staff members who have fitted in and have the right knowledge to keep our clients happy and well prepared for their trips.

Megan Brown has been in several temporary golf -related positions since she graduated from university and as a 6 handicap golfer, she knows her way around a golf course. Furthermore, within a few weeks of joining us she became the Ladies Club Champion at Dunfermline Golf Club and as you can see in the staff picture below she is proudly holding the handsome trophy her name is engraved on.

Robert Paterson also has an enviable golfing background having been born and bred in St Andrews.  He caddied on The Old Course during his summer recesses from university and since graduating, as he possesses a yacht master ticket,  he has spent time around Portugal on private yachts. However, his passion for golf overcame his passion for sailing and he is back doing what he likes best.

Sue Millar joined us from the ski industry as one of our administrators and joins Carole keeping all our tour administration ship shape.

Lindsay Steward has been with us for over 3 years now, and is still looking after our touring vacations and corporate events.

I am still trying to avoid a hard day’s work, unsuccessfully for the most part 🙂 Meeting clients on arrival at the airport, and other locations take up much of my summer but I often get an opportunity to play some golf with clients or travel with them when the group size needs a tour manager.

That’s the staff issues up to date. Read on to get more business issues…  Hope to see you again soon.

Ronniestaff June 2017

We are delighted to report that our Application to be an “AUTHORISED PROVIDER” of  tee-times at the Old Course St Andrews and the other 6 courses run by St Andrews Links Trust has now been approved. This give us access to a larger allocation of guaranteed tee times times on The Old Course than we have had in previous years.

Since we started in business 20 years ago, we have always had the problem of demand exceeding supply for these sought after tee-times. As St Andrews have terminated the relationship they had with The Old Course Experience, they have created a broader platform of “authorised providers  of tee-times” and we are delighted to be part of this new arrangement.

Apart from having access to a larger number of tee times for our clients, we also are able to apply for our 2018 tee times in March 2017, and allocate these to clients who book with us during the 2017 summer season. If we are sold out by August, then clients can apply for their own direct times in the August/ September time window as usual.  Overall, the process of acquiring times should be a lot smoother, and golfers from around the world will be able to plan their trips a little further in advance and make the most of favourable exchange rates and early booking offers from the airlines.
